We may have found one or two very small gem quality
(maybe worth $50 said John), and are very, very happy
with all of the others we found. Lots of small pieces
great for wrapping in wire and using for necklaces and
such.
It's sort of like gambling, huh? It's really great
when you are finding gems, and then a bit of too much
work if you aren't . Hee hee hee hee!

As  I alluded to in a rather oblique reference  last week ...........a phenomenal pocket of " hybrid"  amethyst crystals was found at JXR last week during the  "Insane Clown Posse Monster machine Dig  ". I named this pocket the "Insane Clown Posse Hybrid pocket ". And the very best cluster I have named the " Royal Crown " . These so called " hybrids" have the best  combined attributes from the front and back pits. WhiIe the back pit material is most noteworthy for it's great dark color , the front pit generally has much better clarity and shinier faces . These new hybrids have the best of both worlds ! The upcoming " INSANE CLOWN POSSE " machine dig :  This will break yet another record when it comes to  GEORGIA specimen mining , as the 100,000 pound Cat 345   " supersedes"   my past work with the 70,000 pound VOLVO that I have used twice at jxr and a few times at Ivey Farm .  I asked Don to take a picture of the huge SUPER CAT with Marie Aldridge standing between the tracks and bucket , with the huge dipper stick and boom looming high overhead , to give a perspective and idea of just how big this machine is.  Look close and you'll see Marie by the machine by the tracks . Not only is it tall , it is 12 foot wide and solid steel..............a hundred thousand pounds !   It took a special d.o.t. permit to move this machine on the highway.  Yesterday ( Jan.04 ) Robert Kyle and Jim Olson visited JXR and paid $25 each to dig. Since there is a fantastic new area that folks can get into the big front hole, the collecting has been great . jim and Robert hit it big time yesterday and here is a report from Jim :      Hi Rodney - Robert and I had a great time digging Wednesday at Jackson's crossroads . We found several half dollar sized  amethyst crystals that were smoky to light purple in the first hour of digging. About 9:00am Robert opened up a pocket of amazing amethyst crystals. Not the super dark purple but good strong purple amethyst and great  crystal shapes. Single double terminated  amethyst crystals, double terminated amethyst crystals and clusters. Your "Double Mojo" digging bars are a must have for digging in the hole. I don't think we could have worked that pocket without them. I have given a light cleaning to two of the amethyst  crystals out of the thirty or so so that I found. Here are pictures of what I believe to be the best two. I should have my website updated with the rest of the crystals as well as Roberts finds by Sunday. It was almost dark but Don still was able to get a decent picture . The  amethyst earings are a standard light purple , but the  amethyst pendent is an amazing blue flash tanzanite color:Joe , had these stones cut by the same fellow that I get to cut my material . If you need faceting work done , just email me for the details .  The next day ( Sunday ) an area was breached that had those good open pockets , the kind where you just reach in and scoop out the crystals , and on occasion plates of druse-lined wall rock can be removed with the adhering amethyts crystals still attached to make awesome matrix pieces.
